Review | A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
Title: A Court of Thorns and Roses
Author: Sarah J. Maas
Published by Bloomsbury
Genre(s): New Adult, Fantasy
Info: Feyre is a huntress. She thinks nothing of slaughtering a wolf to capture its prey. But, like all mortals, she fears what lingers mercilessly beyond the forest. And she will learn that taking the life of a magical creature comes at a high price... Imprisoned in an enchanted court in her enemy's kingdom, Feyre is free to roam but forbidden to escape. Her captor's body bears the scars of fighting, and his face is always masked - but his piercing stare draws her ever closer.
After marathon reading all of the Throne of Glass series up to Empire of Storms I decided to try out ACOTAR also by Srarah J. Maas because I'd heard loads of great things about it and, mainly from the amazing stuff that I'd heard about ACOMAF. So hear goes... This book was insanely good, I can see why some people didn't like some aspects of it, but I think that those things can be redeemed in future books and honestly it made for a crazy emotional journey. As long as you understand that the things that happen aren't representations of how something should be in real life and that it is fiction, then you can accept how amazingly well done this book is. I feel like the retelling was done really well because even though I know the story of Beauty and the Beast, it did not make this book predictable at all. The second half of the book really took a turn, the parts 'under the mountain' were my favourite because they were so captivating and interesting and mostly I loved Rhysand. I thought that his character was done so well and I can see the beginnings of a very complex morally grey character and they tend to be my favourite kind of characters to read about. I also really loved Feyre, which is awesome and extremely refreshing as I have recently been preferring the side characters in the books that I've been reading. However that did not happen with this one.
This book is definitely more New Adult than Young Adult, and has some rather graphic scenes so I would not recommend for younger readers, or if you are not comfortable reading that sort of thing. Overall this book was fabulous and I really can't wait to find out what happens next! 5/5 Stars!
