Along the way they get split up and we follow Scarlet and her journey to find her sister Donatella. But even though Scarlet has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance she still becomes wrapped in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic.
The world building in this book was so magical and beautiful that I felt like I was watching a movie in my head. Stephanie Garber really made the world stand out from anything else I've ever read before.

The plot of this book worked so well, I feel like there was never a dull moment. It was a truly addictive read! Scarlet character development was very well spaced and never at any point while reading the book did I feel like she wasn't acting like the character that started out at the beginning of the book, which I feel is often the point in books where characters change a lot. Stephanie Garber did a great job of keeping Scarlet true to
herself while developing her as a character in so many different ways; and in my opinion it really worked out!
“Every person has the power to change their fate if they are brave enough to fight for what they desire more than anything.” Overall I think that Caraval was amazing, and it may even be one of my favourite books that I've ever read. It reminded me of the magical feeling I had when I first fell in love with Harry Potter and it was so whimsical in a way that could only be topped by Alice in Wonderland. It was so dark and twisty yet beautifully wonderful at the same time. I literally feel like I want to cry because this book was so amazing and I wouldn't change a thing about it. The more I think about it the more I love it, if the sequal is even half as good I don't know what I will do!
Favourite pages: 241, 242, 243, 5/5 Stars!!! I would recommend for fans of Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge, Alice in wonderland and Through the Looking glass by Lewis Carroll and also if you enjoy dark whimsical storytelling.
