The Perfect Summer Reads | 2018
I've done a Summer reads recommendation post before but since that one is quite outdated now, I thought I'd do a new one. I've read so many books that have that summery aesthetic that are perfect for reading beside the pool or on a sunny day in the garden. Here are the books that's I'd highly recommend picking up in the summer season:
7. Flame In The Mist by Renée Ahdieh
I adore Renée Ahdieh's writing, it just has a summery fairytale sort of feel. I think it's because it doesn't feel overly wordy and dense like a lot of fantasies do. Flame in the Mist has themes akin to Mulan and the Feudal Japan setting is something unique that I don't often see in young adult fantasy. I loved the first book but I have to mention that I'm currently reading Smoke In The Sun which is the second book in the duology and I'm enjoying even more. I feel as though this is going to be a new favourite of mine and I really recommend that you pick it up if you haven't already. My Review
My rating: 4.75 Stars
6. The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli
This is the first book I read by Becky Albertalli and it is most definitely my favourite. She somehow has a way of making her characters so unbelievably relatable. It's quirky, funny, romantic, diverse and I was captivated after reading the first line. My Review
My rating: 5 Stars
5. My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick
This is the perfect cutesy 'boy next door' romance that is an essential when it comes to young adult contemporary. It's full of summer mischief and the family relationships in this book are AMAZING! If you aren't into the very fluffy contemporaries I would still urge you to give this a try because there is a lot more to this story than romance.

4. The Fifth Wave by Rick Yancey
Before reading really became a big part of my life there weren't many books that could keep my attention. I mostly picked up the first book in a series because I'd seen the movie or tv adaption but never carried on with the next books. (For example; Twilight, The Hunger Games, The Maze Runner, The Vampire Diaries, just to name a few.) But this book was different. It started out the same, I watched the movie and loved it which I know is totally an unpopular opinion, but I then picked up the book so I could eventually carry on and see what happened next. As soon as I started it, I was totally immersed, it was so much better than the film and I could not put it down. I carried on reading and reading and reading until I finished the whole trilogy. There are small things that I don't like about the series but as a whole this was the first trilogy that I finished and loved and for that it will always have a special place on my shelf. The first book is the best, so if you don't read all three that's fine but please give it a try because it's well worth it.
My rating: 4.25 Stars
3. Amy and Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson
This book is the definition of a Summer Adventure. So if you haven't by chance picked it up yet, and you love books where you can travel with the characters then this is perfect for you. It still has a very cutesy fluffy feel to it but it also is emotional and very gripping. I was completely immersed in this book while I was reading it and got way too invested in the lives of Amy and Roger. I read this last summer and adored it so I would highly recommend picking it up if you haven't yet had the chance.
My rating: 4 Stars
2. The Wrath and The Dawn by Renée Ahdieh
Again, I couldn't help but mention Renée Ahdieh's other duology because it became an instant favourite of mine as soon as I finished it. It's a loose retelling of A Thousand and One Nights and has a very Hades and Persephone feel to it which is my favourite trope. The slow burn romance in this is to die for and the angst is of the charts. Renée Ahdieh's books seem to be the only fantasy books that I associate with the summer season, but honestly, they are fantastic reads. My Review
My rating: 5 Stars
1. Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of The Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz
This is a book that is emotional, essential and just down right beautiful. If you only pick up one book from this list I would urge it to be this one. I don't want to go into details because I feel as though its better to go into this without knowing much. Just. Read. It!
