My Top 10 Winter Read Recommendations!
Winter is my favourite of the seasons, I don't really know why but I've just always preferred colder weather, especially when it snows. I just feel like when it snows it makes you feel like you're in a whole different world. It feels fantastical. Which is probably why a lot of the books I have chosen are more on the fantasy side of things. I could talk about how much I love this season forever but before I start rambling lets get to the books I have chosen:
10. The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo
The grisha trilogy is truly incredible and I think these books are perfect reads for either Autumn or Winter. These books are so dark and twisted and I totally love them. The concept is mind blowing and I adore the way the magic system works. If you're looking for a myserteous fantasy, which is stunningly written and plot turns that will bring you to your knees. You have to read this. My Rating: 5 Stars (My review of Ruin and Rising)
9. Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
I don't really know why but whenever I think of Winter, I think of red queen. So far I've only read the first book but I really enjoyed it. I know there's a lot of controversy surrounding this series but in my opinion I think It is the perfect guilty pleasure fantasy read. It's full of political intrigue, and character's that you will instantly fall for. My Rating: 5 Stars
8. Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge
This book was so flipping whimsical, and it totally speaks to me. I fell in love with this gorgeous fairytale of a book and couldn't get enough. If you enjoy Beauty and the Beast or Hades and Persephone retellings then you will live for this. The writing is so lyrical and the author takes you on a journey into a whole new world. This is perfect for those of you looking for a magical book to get lost in. My Rating: 5 Stars
7. Prisoner of Ice and Snow by Ruth Lauren
Six of Crows meets Prison Break in a frozen world. If you want a book with an amazing adventure of a plot then this is your kind of read. Also might I add that there is a kicking sister relationship that is basically the focus of this amazing book. This book as a whole was so exciting and I was crazy surprised by how much I loved it. My rating: 4 Stars (My review)
6. By Your Side by Kasie West
Trapped in a library in a snow storm with a cute boy and all the books you could wish for?! Sounds like the perfect fluffy, wintry contemporary to me. Seriously though, this book is my favourite of Kasie Wests and I highly recommend picking it up. Sooooo good! My Rating: 4.5 Stars
5. The 'A Court of Thorns and Roses Series' by Sarah J. Maas
The second book (A Court of Mist and Fury) will always take up my number one spot as my all time favourite book, there's no doubt about it. I read the first and second books last winter and since then I've not been able to get them out of my head. They are magical and exciting, the characters have genuine charisma and I instantly fell in love with the story. So if you haven't already read these fantastic books I would highly recommend that you do. My Rating: 5 Stars (My review of A Court of Wings and Ruin)
4. Caraval by Stephanie Garber
An eerie tale of love, and mysterious happenings. This book gives me those perfect winter vibes and I absolutely loved reading this book last winter so I think it's the perfect time of the year to pick this one up. It's such an original concept and I can't recommend it enough. My Rating: 5 Stars (My review)
3. Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones
Another book that you could mistake for a fairytale that has been around forever. Because the lush world building and the crazy web of a plot that the author is able to spin in this book is truly magnificent. I picked this up pretty recently and I couldn't believe that I hadn't read it sooner because it was just so good. My Rating: 5 Stars
2. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
I mean you can't get much more magical than this series. And I guess the fact that it's nearly Christmas is making me feel nostalgic. But, without a doubt I would highly recommend picking up these books. My Rating: 5 Stars
1. Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch
And last but certainly not least. Snow like Ashes by Sara Raasch, is set in a world split up into different courts; the seasons and the rhythms. The characters that the book follows are from Winter and are on a quest to retrieve the magic that has been stolen from their court. This book is bloody fantastic and the series as a whole is one of my all time favourites. My Rating: 5 Stars
