Wow, this book was wonderful! Under Rose-Tainted Skies is the most authentic feeling novel I've read in a long time. The mental health representation in this is honestly fabulous and I can't recommend this book enough. I was gripped straight away and couldn't put it down. I wasn't sure whether I would enjoy it before I picked it up, but I was intrigued enough to give it ago.

As soon as I started reading I instantly connected with the main character. In fact all of the characters felt very realistic and were each unique in their own way. Louise Gornall did a great job at setting them apart from the usual set of characters that you tend to get in young adult literature. I'd also like to mention that this is also an own voices novel. “I'm being forced to challenge ideas that have kept me safe for so long. There's an entire library of information in my head, and suddenly I can't decide if any of it is worth reading.” The main protagonist Norah constantly deals with agoraphobia, OCD AND anxiety. Seeing the way her mind goes over things and how she thinks things through was really eye opening. It was also brilliant to see a romance that isn't hinted as a cure for Norah. Mental Illness wasn't romanticised and I am so very happy about that. The idea that a mental illness can suddenly be 'fixed' by a romantic relationship is ridiculous and it was great to see something much more real. That said Luke was a great love interest for Norah and it was truly amazing to see their relationship develop over the course of the book. I really felt for both Norah and Luke. “Sometimes things are going to happen and the only way out is through.” Lastly I just want to mention that their are themes of self-harm at a couple of points in the book and I feel like a trigger warning is necessary since it isn't mentioned in the books synopsis; its not a constant thing throughout however it is there. Overall I feel like this book was very well written and is well worth the read! 5 Stars
